Facilities are licensed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), Long-Term Care Regulation, under Texas Health & Safety Code Ch. 247 and 26 Texas Administrative Code Ch. 553 (assisted living, Type A and Type B) and Ch. 242 (nursing facilities) (verify at the HHSC Long-Term Care Provider Search). Medicaid long-term care is the Texas STAR+PLUS managed-care program, including the STAR+PLUS Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) waiver, delivered through managed care organizations including Molina Healthcare, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, Superior HealthPlan (Centene), and Aetna Better Health. The HCBS waiver does not pay for assisted living room and board.
